On October 2, 2008 the Mt Markham students and faculty were called to an assembly at 10:00AM. Once seated Principal Kissinger introduced Ms. Kim Trevisani who went into an explanation as to why everyone was gathered that day. Wal Mart General manager John Emory was introduced by Ms. Trevisani and he went on to explain the award he was there to present.
In a brief synopsis from Mr. Emory, he explained that after nearly 20 candidates Wal Mart of Herkimer, NY has chose it's first teacher of the year ever from the Mt. Markham Central School district. Ms. Carrie Abate' received the award and is now entered into the northeastern regional division of Wal Marts competition for teacher of the year.
The school received a $1,000.00 check to use on education in the classroom and Ms. Abate' received a $100.00 Wal Mart gift card to spend on her own class room supplies.
